The Brazilians Lose It Yet Again

The Brazilian fans are heartbroken. Out of frustration, they boo on their own players. Marcelo and Neymar too were watching their team get beaten up by the Dutch. A disappointing performance from Brazil. The first break for the Dutch came when Van Persie got a lofted pass, headed it into the air,
controlled it and laid off a smart through pass for Robben. Robben made no mistake and dashed straight for the defense area. He was too fast for Thiago Silva and he could only pull down Robben, who was almost at the defense line. Robben tumbled and landed into the
defense area, and the whistle blows. Van Persie made no mistake and shot an almost top corner penalty, Julio Caesar dives but is just short. Along with the goal, the Brazilian captain Thiago Silva has got his 3rd yellow card in this World Cup. At the 8th minute, Robben pulled down Paulinho near the defense area and got a yellow card too, but he’s all smiles.

Robben isn’t the best player at the World Cup”, Felipe Scolari might want to reconsider his words now. As if the penalty wasn’t enough, Van Persie passed the ball to Robben, who dashed to the corner and threw a cross at the last second. David Luiz headed the ball out, but it was a weak clearance, right to Dailey Blind who nailed it in. Many were arguing that David Luiz should simply have thrown the ball out, but even if he didn’t, why didn’t the other players back him up?

The Brazilians got a fairly good chance at the 37th minute. In came a cross, Gustavo headed it, but both David Luiz and Paulinho are unable to give it that little touch. The second half was a flurry of attacks, defensive lapses and some heated moments. The Dutch often got really close and the Brazilians were saved by some lucky touches. The Dutch had scored twice already and weren’t putting much of an effort into getting a third, this might be more of a personal opinion but Van Persie feebly kicked the ball to Julio Caesar when he could have looked out for his teammates. The Brazilians lacked finesse. Oscar and David Luiz were creating good plays but the others couldn’t quite carry them. Oscar perhaps was the only Brazilian to shine because he dodged a couple of players every time he got the ball and the crowd would be on their toes. He was exciting to watch, but was often fouled before he could drop a pass.

As if 2-0 wasn’t enough, the referee awarded 5 minutes of added time and the Dutch scored a 90th minute goal. They finished in style, I must say. The Brazilians have now conceded the most goals in this World Cup and in all, a total of 101 World Cup goals conceded. David Luiz was rather mysterious today, he led the attack and didn’t perform as well in the defense. He was quite a hothead today and nearly got himself into a fight, but Hulk’s substitution cooled matters off.

Not much of a match it was, let’s hope that the Final is worth watching.
