Sergio Romero - The Beast

Sergio Romero Saves The Day

Argentina don't owe it to Messi this time, they owe it all to Sergio Romero. Who would've thought that this man, about whom critics were all over saying he lacked the skill, would actually pave the way for Argentina for the World cup 2014 trophy. Forget the 90 minutes, forget the two halves of additional time, the penalty shootout is what had all the oomph.

When the referee was about to blow the whistle signalling for the penalty shootout, I was certain that Tim Krul would be subtituted in for the penalty shootout and he would save the day as he did with the Costa Rica match. That wasn't happening though. The dutch had already cashed in on all their 3 subsitutions and Jasper Cillessen was getting ready for the penalties.

Sergio Romero wouldn't be able to save a shot, I thought. I was wrong. He saved the first shot! Just how many times does that happen in a world cup semifinal? Penalties are being played in a world cup semifinal after 16 years and he saves the first shot! What's more is that he saves another of the next 4. Argentina make no mistake. They bag in all their penalties and win. Sergio Romero is yelling in the air, thanking the heavens probably. Lavezzi has gone crazy. I can barely see Messi's eyes, maybe he's crying too. Even Arjen Robben's kid is crying and he has to go the crowd to console him. There are many others who want to be consoled too.

Tears everywhere. Some of joy, some of sadness. Argentina cry, they dance, they scream, they can't believe it. They don't want to leave the pitch. It's party time boys.
